Why We Walk
Mothers kiss their sons goodbye as a million flowers wilt on a million windowsills. A generation of eager, strong feet march to the beating heart of someone’s selfish desire, thinly veiled as “Freedom” or “God’s Will”. Their laces laced, straps strapped, buckles buckled and buttons buttoned, the young, dumb, passionate ones run past the jaws of razor sharp teeth, directly into the belly of a manufactured beast. The darkness in that place is not easy to come back from, and even those who survive tend to leave themselves on the battlefield. Their legacy will take the form of gaping holes left in loving homes, or worse, a cancerous, rotting trauma that plagues future generations.
We will not support this business partnership of church and state that sends our boys to the meat grinder, nor will we ever swear an oath that could compel us. The powers that be will hate us for this. In the name of The Lord, they will burn our homes, torture our men and rape our women. They will grind us into dust and scatter us across the countryside. We will never bear arms against these atrocities, so we walk. We walk into the sun until it falls beyond our reach. We walk until the Earth wears out our shoes and our feet wear out the Earth. We walk ourselves into the ground, until it is only our bones that remain to testify to the tyranny of selfish men.
